I'm going to try to keep this review short (one of my hookers wants me to help her with her homework). My wife and I went here on Friday. Our cashier was a bit overwhelmed (our order almost got mixed up, and we had to wait an extra minute for it), but she was friendly and worked hard. It was busy inside, but we only had to wait about 5 minutes for our food. We were overcharged by 4 cents (I just noticed this now). The sales tax rate is 9.5%, not 9.75%. The register needs to be adjusted (I hate pointing this shit out- I've had to do it a few times before). There are 8 fountain machine selections and about 15 other drinks to choose from (ex: bottled water; Hawaiian soda). This place is bigger than I thought. The seating capacity is actually over 70. The men's restroom could use some attention. yelp.com/biz_photos/l-an… . The Hamburger Steak sounds appealing ( yelp.com/biz_photos/l-an… ), and I also want to try a Loco Moco ("Savory, L&L Hawaiian Barbecue hamburger patties placed over rice, covered with brown gravy and topped with 2 eggs"). L&L Hawaiian BBQ Mix Plate ($9.31 if you're charged the right amount of tax- otherwise, $9.33): 8.5/10. My wife was appalled by the price (for some reason, she thought that the food here was cheaper than the food at Asia Express- it's just a few doors down), but the location near our house charges $10.33, and I don't think we even received macaroni salad when we went there in January. Anyway, the price has only risen a tad since 2011, and you receive a good amount of food (even a big eater like me generally gets full). My short ribs were good and not too greasy or fatty. My pieces of BBQ beef were a little fatty, but really delicious. As I expected, I loved my chicken (it was juicy and very meaty). I just wish that I had received a little more. My rice and macaroni salad were both off the hook. My wife was brave enough to try some cabbage. I don't care for it in the least (it just takes up space as far as I'm concerned). The cashiers are solid overall, and my wife and I are never disappointed in the food here.

Located within walking distance from Union City BART, this is the Union City version of the L&L chain of Hawaiian-themed fast food restaurants. This place is one of many businesses within this strip mall along Decoto Road & Alvarado-Niles Road. When you walk in, the counter is right there for you to order food, where the immediate left has a few places to sit while your food is cooked. There's an extended seating area along the back of the restaurant if you wish to eat instead of take to go, though most people come here to take food to go usually. The menu is upfront and some extra side dishes are along the left side of the front, plus 2 refrigerators are nearby if you want to add something to drink besides tap water. The staff seem alright even after reading other reviews of sad-looking workers, so judge for yourselves upon ordering, as there weren't any emotional issues during our visits. The food here isn't gourmet, though their best value meals are either their mini-meal or regular sided combinations that come with a side of macaroni and rice. All of their barbecue dishes are fantastic for the money you pay, especially the short-ribs as those aren't easy to make, let alone taste good. The only other item that is money is the spam musubi, which is 2 for about $3 as of this posting, where this makes you full or at least can keep your stomach occupied until your next big meal. L&L will always be great to get a cheap & filling meal for anyone arriving in Union City via BART or just happen to be in this area. A great value for a good meal.

**DO NOT EAT HERE!!** **YOUR STOMACH AND ANUS WILL THANK YOU LATER" As soon as you walk in, I noticed the place was empty. No cooking going on, the cashier watching youtube or porn on his ipad, headphones on, and the cook just sitting around. I walk up to the counter, the cashier just looks at me (didn't bother taking of the headphones). WTF... I place my order, and make my way to the restroom to wash my hands. As I get closer to the restrooms, the smell of a fish market becomes increasingly stronger. I take one look in the restroom and was shocked. Graffiti everywhere, ceilings, stalls, mirror, door, tiles, urinal. Everything from sharpies, spray paint, and even what looks to be house paint.. The urinal was broken, covered with a plastic bag, toilet looks to be "chocolate dipped". I felt dirtier just being in there so i didn't even bother washing my hands. WTF!? ** If this is how they maintain a section that customers see, imagine how they maintain what customers don't see such as the kitchen or fridge for perishables and meats.** WTF!? With my hands still dirty, and bottom of my shoes covered in urine... I received my food. Rice tasted like it was kept in the cooker overnight, spam musubi was all rice, with a slither of spam. The cook cant even wrap it correctly to where it doesn't fall apart when you pick it up. The chicken katsu tasted like food poisoning waiting to happen. The "community" ketchup bottle looked Burgundy and crusty instead of red. BBQ sauce tastes like someone had been double dipping. Macaroni salad not only tastes like salmonella, but it was also warm, not cold or even room temp, that shit was warm! WTF!? this place gives L and L a bad wrap. Find a different place to grub, your stomach and anus will thank you later...

The food is ok. I ordered the food "for here" and the cashier lady made the food to go. I think the cashiers name is JUDY. She's a bitch and really fucking rude. I hope they fire her ass and hire someone that is customer service friendly. I'm not coming back here if she's servicing me. All I did was order my food and politely asked for a receipt. I'm not trying to cause problems. Fuck that bitch. Have some goddamn manners and don't tell me you don't know. Why would you work here if you don't know? You're servicing me. I'm PAYING YOU. Fuck you Judy.

The food itself isn't fantastic, but for the cheap prices I just have to bump L&L up to 4 stars. Note that this is not a gourmet restaurant so don't come here if you're looking or phenomenal food. But if you're on a budget, hungry, and wanting some tasty treat then I definitely recommend this establishment. Location: L&L is really conveniently located next to the BART Station and James Logan High School. I came here all the time during my high school career when I had a spare 5 dollars and wanted to treat myself to a nice meal. The ambiance inside isn't anything special - it looks like a cheap takeaway with bright colours. Customer Service: A bit saddening really... The employees look depressed even though L&L is a successful business. They take and serve orders with blank faces. However, even if they need hugs they still work efficiently. Expect your meal to come out in around 5 minutes - hot and fresh. Food: Fantastic! I recommend getting their mini-meals that come with a side of macaroni and rice. I always get the Mini Barbecue Chicken meal. About 5 dollars for 2 large pieces of barbecued chicken with macaroni and rice. The juices from the chicken oozes onto the rice and tastes delicious. The only downside to this dish would be that the skin they leave on is really fat, but it's not that hard to take it off yourself. So cheap and totally worth it! I also really enjoy their Spam Musubi - cheap for a jumbo-sized musubi. You can get 2 of them for approximately 3 dollars and be filled up just from that. --- You really cannot go wrong with L&L. I've been here so many times and it has never gone wrong. Always delicious, always fresh, and always cheap. What a fantastic takeaway option for a quick meal on a budget.

One of my favorite Hawaiian BBQ places in California. Hands-down delicious food, great price, great service. The portions are huge - you could probably share a bento box and still have leftovers. The price is right - $8. The service is quick, friendly, and the food is delivered in a classy manner. This isn't health food - but great every once in a while. The location is a little sketchy, but there is ample parking close to the restaurant.

I love the fried shrimp and macaroni salad. I always get it to go because the place is just to small.

I like the BBQ Chicken. My wife likes the Lau Lau. The portions are large enough to split into 2 meals. That makes this place cheaper the fast food hamburgers, with a much fresher taste. I think the rude cashier has gotten the message. She was really nice to me. She did not even complain when I gave here dollar coins. Use dollar coins instead of paper to save tax payer money on printing and destroying paper money.

Guilty pleasure.. yes... yes it is. After driving back from Redding we stopped here for some katsu. Overall did the trick (You can't really go wrong with some cheap katsu..can you???) Nothing fantastic or life changing.. just taking care of a basic need.... hunger after a 3 hour plus drive.

This restaurant in the Union City Marketplace offers up Hawaiian food with other delicious options too. I haven't tried everything here nor have I eaten everything on their menu, but the food I've eaten hasn't disappointed me yet. Order/Cashier service: 4/5. With the different cashiers that I've seen and had, they are all generally okay. Some are better than others, that's for sure, but I can't single out any of them since I don't know their names. Foodwait Time: 4/5. Maybe I went during L&L's downtime, but the wait was a little longer than I thought. Appearance: 4/5. The tables are located more inside the restaurant, and I didn't know that until my 2nd time there. There are a lot of tables, although I felt that the tables were a bit too close, if you have a group of people with you. Food: 4/5. I actually enjoy how the meat was cooked. Cooked well, and not too chewy or soft. The rice could be made better, but it's kinda fast food, so I don't expect it to be great. The macaroni salad though, has too many onions for my palette. I usually like onions, but there was so much chopped onions that it disrupted the macaroni. Pros: Good food, and there is a lot of space for you to eat if you don't want to take out. Cons: The cashiers and wait time can be good or bad depending on the time of day.

The best of the L&L Hawaiian places in the tri-city area. It has good prices, good food, fast service, but also has a crummy looking and feeling restaurant. The place is plain, the drink selection sucks, but the most important thing is great (the food). I have eaten at this place for years. I've tried other hawaiian places and they sucked. Not just a little bit, they were just plain bad. But here? The food is great and the service is quick. When I feel like hawaiian, I go to L&L, but only this specific one. Pros: -Good food -Good prices -Best of the franchise Cons: -Restaurant seating sucks -Parking is hard to find -Drink selection is awful Overall, I recommend this place to everyone. Hawaiian BBQ is great, this place does it the best.

As my other fellow yelpers, I agree about the service. I called to place my order & didn't sound to pleasant. Even when I picked up my order, she didn't look too happy. I've been so many times & the service has been inconsistent. The place is huge! But whenever I come by, it's always empty. It's been around since I was in high school & it was the go to place. But now, it's kinda like a ghost town. The food is good. I always get the chicken katsu & the spam masubi. The breaded chicken is crispy & chicken is always tender. The macaroni salad has a bit too much mayo. The rice is always well done. I usually substitute it for fries. The fries are a bit thick for me though so I leave it for my niece who always enjoys it. I come here when I don't know what to eat or when I want something quick.

This location is starting to get pretty run down, even the food doesn't seem to be up to other L&L locations. Staff were alright tho, no complaints there. Portuguese sausage musubi in particular seemed a little lacking, and the macaroni salad seemed to have an excess of chicken in it or something else a little off. That said, can't complain for some reason... some days you just crave Hawaiian-style macaroni salad and spam musubi!

I came in to place an order. The place was empty, only the cook that could be seen from behind the counter was there. We locked eyes after I had looked around for an available associate to take my order. After 2 minutes of wandering eyes, checking to see if someone was going to come from around the corner, storage, outside to take my order no one came. The cook didn't even call anyone out to the register where I was waiting. So I walked out. My impression on the place was that it was filthy. The tables and chairs were in disarray, the cook didn't look very tidy- he was sweating and didn't have a hair net and the service was non-existent.

Lady at the front is hella rude, she irritated me with her attitude. But it's not like I'm going to yell at her because there's a high chance she might get those cooks to spit in my food! Owned by Asians, I think Koreans, all of them have attitude or gives you these dirty looks. They all talk in their language and judging by their facial expressions, and body language I'm pretty sure they be talking sh*t about the people that come in. Like wtf, how are you going to get mad me for coming to eat at your establishment! Really bad, never coming back. Do not go here! Go somewhere else! Go to Ono off of Whipple. The food is practically the same and the service there is 100% better.

My boyfriend and I got hungry after we dropped off a package at the ups store. When we walked in, I got a bad vibe from the cashier, she looked careless and looked like she didn't want to be their at all. She looked like she was on crack or something, and she wasn't happy when we ordered. We only ordered one BBQ chicken with all rice, for both of us to share. She gave us the look. They need to improve on their customer service, After ordering our food, my boyfriend tried to go to their restroom, however all their restrooms are out of order! WTF!? So if you need to use the restroom, make sure you go before you come here or else you'll just have to hold it in. This place is a dump, they need to really renovate this place to make it more appealing to customers. This place is pretty big, so a lot of space is being wasted. Finally, we got our food. Thankfully, they did not mess up our order and our food was hot! We doubled checked to make sure that our chicken was cooked properly, and it was done perfectly. They gave a lot of rice which was a bonus and I liked how they layered the bottom with rice and topped it off with my BBQ chicken. It gave my rice some flavor. YUMMIE! Overall, this place isn't that bad. But I prefer going to a different L & L because I don't think this place is that clean. From what I see, this place looks dirty. I don't want to know how the kitchen looks if customers can't see it. But the food here is really good, not bashing on them, they just need to improve on their customer service skills.

Chicken bowl for $6 is value deal. Comes with rice and plenty of brocally. But beef bowl was just bad. Meat was overcooked and old.:(

This is the best L&L I have been to. I have been to a lot and it is even better than the ones in Hawaii. The portions are always huge. I don't know why but I will not complain. I feed 4-6 people on 2 to go plates. Every one is friendly as well.

Only reason why I gave this place 2 stars is because I like the food and can be replaced with brown rice. Other than that the service is REALLY horrible, the cashier has a horrible vibe, it's no doubt about it she hates her job. Lol! For advice for this location for the cashier especially SMILE!!!

Been here a few times...food is mediocre. Customer service is ok. Food is ok and cooked to order but no wow factor. My favorite is only chicken katsu. The sauce is good. The chicken is a lot and crispy. The macaroni salad is good but there are times there is too much mayo. The BBQ short ribs are ok but not crispy like BBQ should be. The BBQ beef has a lot of fat. The spamasubi is pretty good but too much rice. This restaurant is actually big because it goes in the back for large groups or party. Most likely, I will be back but for the katsu only.

Ordered 3 mixed plates & 2 spam musubi 1 out of the 3 plates had 1 semi short pieces of HAIR in the rice ! YUCK. Clearly visible when eating Spam musubi looked disgusting I've ordered plenty of times from this location Food was nothing special but did the job Anywho, not coming to spend my money at this location anymore.

As always I really like the place. Always reminds me the islands. Especially with the laulau pork. Oh so good. All their musibis, Katsuya chicken, and spicy chicken makes me come back for more.

Eaten here and gotten take out once. Both times were great. Food is fresh and quality outstanding compared to similar restaurants I've been to. Items I've tried: -Salmon Teriyaki rice bowl - cheap at $5.99 and good size, lots of veggies and salmon -Whitefish - perfectly breaded and cooked crisp, huge portion easily split by 2 of us -Honey Shrimp - deliciously breaded and fried with yummy sauce -Seafood Soup - great broth, lots of veggies, noodles, shrimp, crab and fish -Lumpia - got 6 of them for $2.99 and shared with friends; they are small but good The side macaroni salad tastes great to me. Staff is friendly and the food comes out fast and hot. This place is definitely on my go-to list when I don't feel like cooking.

After being introduced to a chicken katsu loco moco while in Vegas, I just couldn't get it off my mind. That's where L&L came into to the picture to fill that void! I knew that L&L didn't have this on their menu, so I just had to customize my loco moco. No other Hawaiian BBQ shops around this area does special orders with their plates. I ended up getting an order to go since I was picking up food for the rest of my family. If you'd like to try the chicken katsu loco moco, just order the regular chicken katsu. Then order two sunny side up eggs with the order. Then just get the brown gravy on the side. BOOM!

I've been to many Hawaiian BBQ places similar to L&L and nothing beats this location! I usually get the chicken katsu or the BBQ chicken. The sauce that comes with the chicken katsu is AMAZING and there's no other place that makes it like them. In high school, I would call them and order, then pick it up which is something I didn't know I could do until a friend of mine told me. I think it's great that they do that considering it's behind the high school and sometimes, I only had 1-2 hour breaks during my band practices. Service is okay. Before, there was a friendly guy who'd always be at the register and now every time I go, there's a girl there who is very blank ._. Not sure how else to describe her. She's not mean, but she's not friendly so don't expect much and enjoy your food.

Foods great but it's almost not worth the service you get. I placed an order to go on the phone 12 minutes before closing because I live around the corner and can get there in less than 5 and the girl that works there was super rude and had way too much attitude. Honestly places like this I don't expect amazing service but this time was terrible. They even got the order wrong even though she read back my order to me correctly. We asked for extra sides and we got charged for it and we didn't even get them. It was my bad for not checking the bags before we left but I didn't even have the time to because they practically rushed us out the door lol ruined my damn appetite

I've been to other L&L locations and they seem to be much better. This was my first time coming to this particular location. Being a chain, I thought it would be the same consistency as the others. However, I ordered the loco moco and the gravy was flavorless. The macaroni salad seemed a bit more creamy than usual.

I was laughing looking at other reviews because everyone is complaining about the cashier women named MELANIE. She is rude and yes she does seem like she's withdrawing from all the cracks, and drugs she did the night before. She has funny eyebrows so make sure you stair at them next them you're there. I asked her if she's just working there or she owns the place, she said I'm new. I was thinking to myself, well you better step up or you won't be working here any longer. She took my orders wrong and of course i repeated 3 times. She's just so weird and rude that i find it funny, how it she get the job in the first place? how was her interview? 5 STARS FOR THE FOOD, ill contact the owner and make sure they get the message

Although, I come here from time to time, i feel like this place looks dirtier each time and it gets worst. The food portions are big but the kitchen and restaurant looks like it needs a bleaching big time. I would love for this place to get a face lift and look more appealing to attract more customers.

The food is great but the Cashier lady seems to be on crack or doesn't even want to be there. It began when my wife ordered over the phone because she needs to go to work soon. The lady seems to be dreaming while taking the order, endlessly getting confused and even asked in the end if we want to pursue the order. When I get there to pick it up, she seems to have no clue that my wife just ordered over the phone and asked me what I wanted. After taking my order, she kept punching something eternally on her Register. I didn't even know when the punching was going to end, so I just told her I'll just go to Starbucks to get coffee. When I came back, she asked me for the 2nd time what my order was! It didn't seem that she had our food cooked yet, and told me to wait for another 10 mins! Then while I was waiting she asks me what my order was again. After waiting for so long, when I finally got my order, she forgot to give my Burger and just stood there taking other orders. So I asked here where's other order, then she asked for my receipt and wanted to know what our order was again!!! She finally hands me the box just sitting behind her. So far this is my worst Fast Food experience ever. I don't know if she's doing everything on purpose so she can get fired ASAP. Btw, she also gets the next customer's order wrong LOL

My food companion bought me dinner today. They have a pretty good selection on the menu. When you walk in the restaurant looks very small with two tables and chairs but its not. Passed the Pepsi machine to your left the restaurant expands revealing more seats and tables. Your order will be brought to you tongue table if you eat there. One thing I didn't like was how they only have hot, soy, BBQ, teriyaki and other sauces at the front counter and not on every table. Meaning that you have to get up to grab it yourself and if you want to try something else you have to get up again. This is one of those places where you can stop by for a quick bite to eat by yourself or with friend. During a school days its usually busy during linch with students from Logan high.

I believe this was the worst meal I have ever had! Stopped in for an early lunch - the place was empty and the cashier looked half asleep and like she barely rolled out of bed. We ordered the short ribs, and as we waited in the dining room, I noticed how dirty and worn down everything was, and hoped the food was not going to reflect it. The walls had old food splatters and stains, the upholstery had holes all over, the wall decorations were dirty, the whole place looked beaten down. There was a handwritten sign by the restroom saying something about not putting graffiti in the bathroom, and someone tagged the wall next to the sign. It looked like someone once cared to make it look nice but that person is no longer around. When our food came, we received large portions, but the ribs were not freshly cooked, it tasted as though it was old and reheated. You could tell the mac salad had been in the fridge for a while, and to top it off, the soda machine formulas were off, and even that did not taste good. Sadly to say the white rice was the best tasting and looking part of the meal. We only ate part of our meal and tossed the rest - what a waste of $20! Very disappointing, L&L used to be much better, but this was my last visit, there are too many other places with much better Hawaiian food and atmosphere.

I used to eat the food from here as a child and still do frequently until this day. The food is a bit pricey, but it is delicious! I usually order the chicken or the Katsu chicken from there. I have not been eating here recently as much as back then, so I do not know if the cash register person is the same as back then. There used to be a sweet Asian woman that was the cash register person and her husband was the chef. Probablly the employees have changed, so it is most likely different now. Overall, the food is great, but a bit expensive.

The cashier is a unhappy nasty little girl. I ordered the special spicy chicken, she charged me for two, I corrected her and she was not happy. Ummmm, yeah I want one not two, so too bad you had to ring up the correct amount. Nope not coming back! There are so many other Hawaiian BBQ places I can take my pick within 1 mile range.

Honestly it's very disappointing to see how bad this place has gotten. Maybe it went under new management or something.. I use to come here all the time after school when I was in high school and the service was just fine. I stopped in today and the cashier was super rude. I would give her the benefit of the doubt that she probably had a long day but I'm not. I've worked in the customer service for over 5 years, & there's no excuse for the way I was treated here. STAY AWAY FROM THIS LOCATION! There's another L&L in Hayward off of Tennyson Blvd they'll treat you right.

The service is always quick and the food is always good. Not very healthy but it's comfort food. They have a bento box for about $8 that has chicken, beef, fish and spam with rice and macaroni salad. It's huge and has a taste of everything. We only get take out, the place feels uncomfortable and not super clean. The staff is always cool but not always the liveliest bunch. The food is cheep and its fast.

Food is great. Service is great. Can't ask for more especially the portion for the price. Every weekend that I stop by, I'm greeted by the nicest cashier; I believe her name is Dalina. Busy or not, she always has a welcoming attitude. You definitely have to give this place a shot. :)

I came back here smh I should've known better but!!!! The towel they use to wipe the tables down a customer (high school student) used it to wipe his shoes and another customer complained but the lady at the register didn't care and kept rolling her eyes . She still didn't toss it to be washed it's still laying on the counter .

The restaurant was filthy. Water was flooding the floor under the soda machine due to a stopped up floor drain. My wife had to tell them they had the same problem in the womens' bathroom and the mens' was disgusting. Food was ok, nice people, but condition was shameful.

I like this branch because everybody's friendly. I love L&L because I could enjoy customisable meat and veggies for my meal. It fits my budget and very convenient. This branch has ample parking spaces and it's near my go-to grocery store. I could easily pick-up a meal to-go. They never fail to serve succulent Chicken BBQ and wonderful fresh varieties of veggies. I will never tire from going here for some last minute meal ideas.

Love this place. It takes a while to get your order, but the wait is worth it. You can't rush fresh food! One of the best places to get hawaiian food, hands down. I suggest getting the Loco Moco or the Chicken Katsu. But if you get the chicken katsu, get the mini sized one b/c it's the same amount of chicken as the regular sized, just less rice. I mean you save alot more just by doing that. It fills you up just as much as the regular sized.

Not good at all. A few friends and I went because we love Hawaiian BBQ, but this place disappointed us. My total came out to almost $12 for a chicken mean with a drink, so it is a little more expensive than other places. The good: the macaroni salad was pretty good and the Katsu was decent which is why I gave two stars. The bad: the BBQ chicken was not the kind that can eat straight out, I ordered skinless but still felt like it wasn't as clean as it could be. The taste was okay, I only ate half of it. The girl behind the counter was eating while taking our order... I mean c'mon at least wait till we're done ordering. And last and worst of all... We found what looked like a ROACH crawling around one of the tables! Never coming back here again.

You can always count on L&L's for last minute party trays!! Half pan Spam Musubi ready for pick up in less than 20 minutes!! (Under $25 bucks!) Not bad. No fail pot-luck contribution. Always a hit at every pot-luck I've been too. No lies. A hit!

The husband and I just moved from Oahu earlier this summer. We were craving some plate lunches and some ono mac salad. This really hit the spot. I have no idea where else I can score some Loco Moco but thank god this place is within walking distance. The food is good, the service was fast and friendly. The quality at this particular L&L is actually better than what I experienced back on the island. We will be back!

This L & L is huge! I love the service here and the lady that works the front. They are great people and friendly to me. Food is as expected... after all it is a L&L! Food is pretty good and portions are always generous and fair. Place is kept well, but the seats and tables are sticky. :P Ultimately, I don't like sitting in the back since there's no one to watch those in the back, but I never eat in but take it to go. I always notice high schoolers at Starbucks with L & L so I know this place is quite popular in the area. What else can I say? Parking can be hard to find up close, but God gave you two legs so use them and walk the short distance if you do park. One great aspect is that since this L&L is owned by Chinese... they keep it open on Holidays and allow you to order when other places may be closed. Ultimately, they are helpful and an important fixture in this area. You can't go wrong if you are craving anything kinda Hawaiian.

If I was really craving hawwiian bbq and this was my only option this does the job. the food is ok the service is hit or miss. I felt like i was bothering them the last time I came in. It was like yeah yeah what do you want more than hi how can I help you.

I used to frequent this place before I moved out of Union City. Whenever I am in the area, I try to make an effort in having a meal there. I've tried other locations before, and I've found that this place suits me the best. I am a fan of rice and it seems this location is the only one that gives the proper amount of rice for the amount of meat that they serve you. The other locations I have been to give two scoops of rice about the size of an ice cream scooper. But this place seems to use an actual cup to serve the rice. The food tastes good and is very consistent, especially when there would be days that I would once a day there. They also tend to give you more macaroni salad as they have to serve it in a separate container. My usual was always the BBQ chicken regular plate witha spam musubi. Since I have been going there, it has always tasted great and consistent every time I order it. I then switched to having the chicken katsu as I like the texture better, and it tastes great every time. I would definitely recommend this location over the others in the area. The place seems to have sort of a dirty feel, but as do all the other restaurants in that area. It isn't a nice area to begin with, so how well the restaurant is maintained matches the neighborhood.

Their Lau Lau is very dry now. It used to be much better. The place was really good when the first opened. Not too much anymore.

I remember this L&L being a lot better than it is now. The vibe here is pretty different from when it first opened up. It seems so run down now (i guess thats the feeling from all the highschool kids going here all the time). The service was slow compared to what i remember. Food was meh. Only thing they got going is they upped the service size? (The mac salad came in its own container.)

Sure you don't go to L&L expecting gourmet. But I got the Lau Lau and Kalua Pig plate. Inside the leaves, the Lau Lau was just one small chunk of meat and one chunk of fat, and the kalua pig was about 2/3rds cabbage (when the norm is 0/3rds). Both of them were cooked properly and edible, but didn't taste good, either. They certainly weren't worth the money. The workers at the counter weren't at all friendly. They seemed really depressed, actually. Insides are nice and clean, if fast-foodish. For some reason there is only one communal bottle of soy sauce.

Not the best L&L location I've ever been to, but it gets the job done. The food is good as usual & the prices as to be expected. The location offers plenty of parking but the inside aesthetics leave much to be desired especially the graffiti plagued bathroom. Better to take the food to go. They are great for party trays though!

The service is transactional. They don't really go out of their way to be nice, but at least they're courteous.... most days. But you get larger than normal servings. So it's a nice trade-off. L&Ls is a chain, and it tastes just like that- chain. Which is good and bad- depending on how you view it. I'm a big fan of the kahlua pork, the loco moco, and the spam musubi. But the seaweed on the musubi can be hit or miss, depending on your visit.

Not very good....the rice tasted pretty bad and the chicken did not look that great. I do admit that the service was good and the portions were good.

There's a few choices when it comes to Hawaiian Barbeque. Although L&L was one of the first places I ate at, their quality no longer meets my expectations. The establishment is very clean, but the numerous handwritten (and often sloppy) signs can take away from the professionalism. The menu is easy to read and even provides pictures to those that have never eaten here before. The prices are very reasonable for the amount of food that you are getting. There are regular sized meals which are enough to feed two people, and mini meals which are sufficient for one person. Now, onto the food: I usually get the chicken katsu, and the chicken often seems overly fried. There doesn't seem to be enough meat when compared to other restaurants. The macaroni is decent, but lacks flavor. I recently ordered the fried shrimp mini meal and was pleasantly surprised with the size and number of shrimp in the meal (4). Another thing that I liked is that they offer brown rice as an alternative to regular rice (at $0.99).

The portions here are huge. I always feel stuffed after eating here. But... the bathroom is disgusting. Everything is covered in graffiti. The sinks are broken (you have to twist the handle of the sink in a special way to turn it on and off!). In the rest of the place, the air conditioner is either broken or they are too cheap to turn it on. It was really hot when I went in July, so it was uncomfortable eating there. If they clean up the bathroom and turn on the AC, I'd give it 3.5 stars.

Pretty good food, usual prices. I usually always get my food to-go, there's always high schoolers around, cant stand it. But my food is always ready on time. I always order either the chicken katsu, or the garlic shrimp. The garlic shrimp is on point. A little oily, and I stink for days. But so worth it.

So I work down the street from this place but never had it so today I decided to give it a try, the menu looked good and I decided to get the marinated beef, it came with 2 sides that I can choose from so I got fries and the famous macaroni salad I been hearing so much about. The food was Delicious, the beef was marinated just right and they use the good kind of fries that I like, well the macaroni salad that my co workers we raving about was awesome, probably the best I ever had mos def worth it for $1.19 if you want to try it but mine was one of my sides. The food portion was really big I didn't even come remotely close to finishing my food but wanted to share this BBQ experience with my co workers so they finished the rest, lol I cant give it 5 stars just yet just cause I haven't tried everything on the menu yet but if everything is as good as what I got today then this place definitely deserves 5 stars, next week I'm trying the pulled pork.

As a big fan of this type of food, I have been to just about every hawaiian barbecue place I have stumbled upon and this one, by far, is the best I have ever been to. I've been going to this L&L for quite a while now, it used to be the spot for me and my friends during the summers off of school, and the quality has never gone down. It has a lot to do with the cooks. My usual order was the seafood combo with the chicken katsu and ever single time, everything was golden brown, cooked to perfection. I've never been unsatisfied with this place. Since the regular plates are such big servings, It's best to go when you are starving. When that's not the case, you can always order a mini, which is a nice portion size as well.

The only L&L Hawaiian B that you should visit. I've eaten in other locations but this is the only location that counts. Their food is delicious, price reasonable, service fast, attitude okay. Will keep coming back.

L&L gives you a lot of food in general for the amount of money you pay. They always over stuff your meat and its sooo delicious, especially the Chicken Katsu. I am not a fat of their Spam Musubi though, my boyfriend makes killer ones. The location is pretty grimey though. Their tables and chairs are always sticky and gross.

Should get no stars. I placed an order for a person with food allergies and specifically asked for plain hamburger patties. When I got the order it had everything on it. Ok I have no problem with getting an order wrong and having to redo it. So come not even a minute later the girl comes to my car and says I got new patties for you. So right as were driving off we notice they are the same patties as we could tell they tried to wipe off the ketchup and mayo. This girl basically lied to me. I got my money back and I was leaving the cook was talking smack in Japanese. I don't mind getting an order wrong. MIstakes happen, but lying to the customer is an unforgiven and I'll never come back here.

Greasy. Cheap. Too many high schoolers hanging around here (because they ditch class.., trust me I went to Logan!) Umm, the only thing I like here is the macaroni salad. . .

I'm going out on a limb here and giving this location 5 stars! They're close to my house, and they're the most consistent location I've ever been to. I've never ordered so much food at any other location. The last time I went here, I ended up buying so much food and went up to the register 5 times. First order: Loco moco, spam musubi, extra mac salad, drink Second order: Mini kalua pork Third order: Mini chicken katsu Fourth order: Spam saimin Fifth order: A bunch of spam and katsu musubi Before you think, "Damn, this guy's a total fatty," I did split most of the food with a friend of mine. But I do have to admit, I did eat most of the food. And when we walked over the Tapioca Express, I was hungry again. Anyways, I would definitely recommend this location if you are in the area. And if you want, let me know when you go and we can meet up for a spam musubi eating contest! Or just to make new friends and whatnot!

My friends and I have been coming here for about a year now, never had any problems. Super fast food! My cousin who grew up eating the original L&L on Liliha has no complaints about this place. They have better pricing than the other ones we've been to. I recommend the mini chicken bbq plate.

Two words: NEVER AGAIN. The first time I ate here (within a few days of their opening) was great; tasty food, and massive portions of it. The second time, however...less than an hour later I was overcome by sudden, explosive diarrhea. We're not talking a hasty trip to the john the following day, no, this was "Gangway! Gotta go NOW!" terror. KA-FWOOOSH! I like to believe that I'm fairly objective about these things though, and it could have been something else that I'd eaten earlier or even the prior day. So, a couple weeks later, well after things had healed up, I gave them another try... Same results. Sudden, massive, explosive diarrhea less than an hour after eating there. Of such vigorous force and magnitude that I cannot even bring myself to allow the traditional benefit of a third strike before declaring this "out," at this or any other L&L location, or any OTHER Hawaiian barbecue for that matter! The experience was so traumatic that the entire cuisine is off-limits. I can only presume that the "L&L" stands for "Live & Learn."

Used to be good but this location gave someone I know food poisoning. Go to the branch yelp.com/biz/l-and-l-haw… instead if you are craving a taste of the islands.

I had been to this place lots of times and still has great tasting food. My favorite dishes is the Chicken Katsu and BBQ Chicken with no macaroni. I do not like their macaroni because it hardly has any flavor. I also like their Chicken Katsu Musubi because it has lots of flavor and it's good for a snack. I highly recommend this place if you like fresh and healthy food.

I just want to say you get alot of food for cheap. I always order the regular size Katsu chicken with steamed rice...OMG a ton of perfectly crispy chicken with 3 Lrg scoops of rice. I get two meals out of this order for less than $7.00. When I say I get 2 meals out of this.....trust me that says alot because I eat large portions of food. For the real mouthwatering experience....I take this dish home, put a little butter in a non-stick skillet and I saute orange bell pepper and sweet onions and then I add all of the chicken and rice and add garlic salt and pepper and saute everything until the rice gets a little crispy and OMG!!!! This is my favorite meal ever. Try it, you will love it!

I actually eat here a lot because of the following reasons: 1) It's close to my house 2) It's fast and you can get to go asap 3) It's inexpensive 4) It tastes ok 5) there's no where else I can buy spam wasubi near by But having said that, I usually get the chicken katsu or the low carb bbq plate. The loco moco is actually delicious but I never get that because although it tastes yummy, it just feels like a heartattack waiting to happen. The gravy plus the meat and the macaroni salad... haha! But I do indulge myself once in a while. The bbq is kinda salty without rice and they give you HUGE portions. But if you're a rice eater, it's good! O and they also give you the option of getting the mini size since their portions can be too big for us girls to eat! haha! This is good for on the go people like me! :)

This is my favorite of the L&L locations, and when I say favorite I mean I like it even better than the ones I've visited in Hawai'i. Sure they have more menu items but if the quality isn't there then it doesn't matter. It only makes me wish that this location would expand their menu to be like the one's I've visited on O'ahu. For those not in the know, what you will find here is counter service Hawaiian BBQ and comfort food. The bread and butter of this place is the plate lunch. You got your regular and your mini. The different is pretty much a scoop of rice, but for some reason it seems like you finishing a regular is a monumental task for me so I stick to the mini plates. My favorites from the grill here at the BBQ chicken, chicken katsu, BBQ beef, BBQ short ribs, mahi mahi, and coconut shrimp. I only tried the lau lau once and I didn't like it so I haven't given it a try again. It may be much better now though but I can't comment on it. The macaroni salad that you get with the plate lunch is sinful. You may want to eat a whole lot more of it but it's so rich that you won't be able to. I've gotten a small tray of it for office parties and there is always more than half still left, and it's not because people didn't like it. They have low carb plates for those that are watching their carb intake as well. Not to be ignored are the cheeseburgers here. They are marinated and are very tasty. The spam musubi is a nice treat as well. The saimin tastes good but I wish they would put more "stuff" in it, whether is be the spam, chicken katsu, or whatever.

I was hungry and L&L answered the call. The mini kalua pork with cabbage, mac salad and rice for $4.95 was quite delicious. Bonus, you can hop on BART right next door and take a nap afterwards.

I don't care what anyone says about greasy food... I think if you ate it in moderation, you'll be a much happier person.. With that said, there's no better place to eat food that is slightly less than healthy (you should listen to me, I'm a nurse :)).. Yummy chicken katsu, spam musubi, and Hawaiian BBQ... I always go here to be reminded of Hawaii...mmmm! Okay, it's not quite like Waikiki Beach, but it's close...

More like 3.5 stars. I have to admit that I've only ordered (on several occasions) their chicken katsu at this location. It's been good and consistent - my youngest loves it. I've tried other items in their menu from different locations, it's just not memorable.

I eat here for lunch from time to time because it is close to work. I get the mini either BBQ chicken or chicken katsu. It comes with a scoop of rice and macaroni salad which tastes very fattening. I'm pretty sure it's not health food :P... but I suppose it's ok to eat once in a while, as long as you make sure to exercise a little more than usual afterwards!

i got the chicken katsu on the recommendation of a friend, and it does not disappoint. it's not fatty or greasy, and i definitely should have gotten the mini portion since this is waaayyyy too much food. the chicken is nice and moist, although the macaroni salad could be a smidge zestier(?--i don't know how to describe it). 4 stars for food. ($6.80 incl. tax for the regular size chicken katsu, which to me is a bit pricey, but not too bad considering how much they give you.) i'm really glad i got it to go, though, since there was a strange smell in the restaurant, kind of a greasy-mixed-with-a-tinge-of-body-odor. not overpowering, no, but enough to make me happy i wasn't eating in. 2 stars for actual restaurant, which also could have been a bit brighter.

This place can be slow when they get a rush of customers coming in at the same time. So, we've learned our lesson and just order to go. We've had L&L twice this week already. I guess we were just craving. My husband ordered the chicken katsu both times. Super yummy! I had their bbq beef saimin (first order). It was so good, it only took a couple of minutes for me to gulp it all down. Then I tried their kalua pork and lau lau combo (2nd order). The kalua pork was very good, just the right amount of saltiness for me. I've never had lau lau before. It's very interesting. A pork chuck wrapped in taro leaves. It was pretty tasty, but I doubt I will order it again.

I dont know what they put in the oil they fry the chicken here.. but everytime i eat the food here... i notice i visit the crapper 3 times the next day... now when someone goes to the crapper after you eat the food.. you know there has to be something wrong.. if you want real plate lunches .. go to Hawaii!!

Inexpensive chicken katsu, spam musubi, lau lau, siamin, loco moco, and more. I haven't really tried any other franchise Hawaiian BBQ places like Ohana, but this one is alright. They give reasonable portions for what your pay so that's a plus. I just don't like the rice nor the macaroni salad. Also, the parking can get kinda bad since it's kinda tucked away in a corner next to a Rite Aid.

(5)Jacqueline J.
I love the fried shrimp and macaroni salad. I always get it to go because the place is just to small.
(3)Greg L.
(5)Vicky T.

(4)Gwyne P.
(3)Brian W.
(2)chante q.

(2)Phil K.
Chicken bowl for $6 is value deal. Comes with rice and plenty of brocally. But beef bowl was just bad. Meat was overcooked and old.:(
(3)Sabrina C.
This is the best L&L I have been to. I have been to a lot and it is even better than the ones in Hawaii. The portions are always huge. I don't know why but I will not complain. I feed 4-6 people on 2 to go plates. Every one is friendly as well.
(5)Dexter-Robert B.
Only reason why I gave this place 2 stars is because I like the food and can be replaced with brown rice. Other than that the service is REALLY horrible, the cashier has a horrible vibe, it's no doubt about it she hates her job. Lol! For advice for this location for the cashier especially SMILE!!!
(2)Edna G.
(3)Angelina B.
(1)Jeremy B.
As always I really like the place. Always reminds me the islands. Especially with the laulau pork. Oh so good. All their musibis, Katsuya chicken, and spicy chicken makes me come back for more.
(4)Brandon C.
(4)Jay G.
BOOM!
(4)Rachel H.
(4)Jenny D.
(1)S T.
I've been to other L&L locations and they seem to be much better. This was my first time coming to this particular location. Being a chain, I thought it would be the same consistency as the others. However, I ordered the loco moco and the gravy was flavorless. The macaroni salad seemed a bit more creamy than usual.
(2)Casey N.
(1)Karissa B.
Although, I come here from time to time, i feel like this place looks dirtier each time and it gets worst. The food portions are big but the kitchen and restaurant looks like it needs a bleaching big time. I would love for this place to get a face lift and look more appealing to attract more customers.
(2)Marco R.
(1)Javier P.

(1)Christine V.
(4)Cathy H.
(1)P E.
(1)Sunil R.
My fave here is the chicken katsu which is deep fried goodness. The ribs are good too. I have had food catered from here for an event as well and everyone liked it.
(3)Jason V.
I love Hawaiian BBQ, but this place made me sick. The chicken wasn't fully cooked and it looked dirty inside. Never again.
(1)Ben M.
(4)Mary P.
Food is great. Service is great. Can't ask for more especially the portion for the price. Every weekend that I stop by, I'm greeted by the nicest cashier; I believe her name is Dalina. Busy or not, she always has a welcoming attitude. You definitely have to give this place a shot. :)
(4)Icky N.
I came back here smh I should've known better but!!!! The towel they use to wipe the tables down a customer (high school student) used it to wipe his shoes and another customer complained but the lady at the register didn't care and kept rolling her eyes . She still didn't toss it to be washed it's still laying on the counter .
(1)Amy L.
The food is pretty decent. And the customer service isn't half as bad as what everyone else is saying. Give it a shot if you're in the mood for some quick (non-authentic) Hawaiian food.
(4)Larry T.
The food is good
(4)Tim M.
The restaurant was filthy. Water was flooding the floor under the soda machine due to a stopped up floor drain. My wife had to tell them they had the same problem in the womens' bathroom and the mens' was disgusting. Food was ok, nice people, but condition was shameful.
(2)Sonnia K.
(5)Kristinrose D.
(4)Stacy D.
(2)Tiffany M.
You can always count on L&L's for last minute party trays!! Half pan Spam Musubi ready for pick up in less than 20 minutes!! (Under $25 bucks!) Not bad. No fail pot-luck contribution. Always a hit at every pot-luck I've been too. No lies. A hit!
(4)Didie P.
(4)Helicon K.
(4)Ariel L.
If I was really craving hawwiian bbq and this was my only option this does the job. the food is ok the service is hit or miss. I felt like i was bothering them the last time I came in. It was like yeah yeah what do you want more than hi how can I help you.
(3)Mark L.
(5)Jeffrey P.
Their Lau Lau is very dry now. It used to be much better. The place was really good when the first opened. Not too much anymore.
(1)Matthew K.
(3)Jeff R.
(2)Andrew H.
Not the best L&L location I've ever been to, but it gets the job done. The food is good as usual & the prices as to be expected. The location offers plenty of parking but the inside aesthetics leave much to be desired especially the graffiti plagued bathroom. Better to take the food to go. They are great for party trays though!
(3)Mar A.
(3)Wessam S.
Not very good....the rice tasted pretty bad and the chicken did not look that great. I do admit that the service was good and the portions were good.
(2)Joseph A.
(3)jerry k.
(2)Chi N.
(3)Emil T.
(4)Justin M.
(4)Ronnie T.
The only L&L Hawaiian B that you should visit. I've eaten in other locations but this is the only location that counts. Their food is delicious, price reasonable, service fast, attitude okay. Will keep coming back.
(4)Michelle D.
(3)reggie c.
(1)Y. Abigail H.
Greasy. Cheap. Too many high schoolers hanging around here (because they ditch class.., trust me I went to Logan!) Umm, the only thing I like here is the macaroni salad. . .

disgusting

(5)wane a.
My friends and I have been coming here for about a year now, never had any problems. Super fast food! My cousin who grew up eating the original L&L on Liliha has no complaints about this place. They have better pricing than the other ones we've been to. I recommend the mini chicken bbq plate.
(4)Damen B.
I eat here quite often and enjoy many of their dishes. The staff is nice and the food is consistently good.
(5)Scabrous V.
(1)Valerie F.
Used to be good but this location gave someone I know food poisoning. Go to the branch yelp.com/biz/l-and-l-haw… instead if you are craving a taste of the islands.
(1)Nintendo G.
(4)T. D.
(4)Cynthia C.
(4)Luis M.
